OUR STORY
Making your family a priority is our goal.
The opportunity to form Kokua Healthcare Big Island arose in 2023. Partners Jake and Iris along with Hulali set out to accomplish a home care agency that put the community and people of Hawaii Island as a priority. Together, we are determined to create a better home health system for the Big Island. A resource that we know our island lacks. Kokua Healthcare Big Island hopes to continue to build lasting and cherished relationships with all the communities and healthcare workers of Hawaii.

Aloha everyone,
My name is Hulali Trask-Kainoa, and I was born and raised in Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. From a young age, my family and community have instilled in me the value of ʻohana and the importance of caring for our own. While in high school, my mom, Renee Trask, fell ill with ALS. Our entire family came together to make sure that she could remain at home, surrounded by those who loved her during her final years. We were blessed to have expanded our ʻohana during this time with our Hospice ʻohana, who played an instrumental role in mom’s care. Since then, it has been my goal to figure out my place in this community and how I can help take care of our people. I have been in the healthcare field since 2014 and have been a nurse for over five years, with my primary experience being in geriatric care and infection prevention and management. My dream is to be able to give back to my community and help establish trustworthy and honorable healthcare. Kōkua Healthcare Big Island strives to do just that- to provide our Kūpuna and local communities with the care they deserve while giving our employees a safe and desirable workplace. We are always open to discussing the needs of your ʻohana and will do what we can to support everyone in the process.
Mahalo nui,
Hulali Trask-Kainoa

Chief Compliance Officer

Aloha, Big Island!
I’m beyond excited to share that we’ve officially launched a new branch of our healthcare ‘ohana right here on Hawai‘i Island. After 17 years in nursing and building Kokua Healthcare on Kaua‘i, I knew it was time to grow. Why? Because families on every island deserve care that feels like family—personal, respectful, and rooted in aloha.
This new chapter isn’t just about expanding services, it’s about expanding support for caregivers, clients, and our entire community. Stay tuned as we build our team, connect with local partners, and bring our heart-centered approach to healthcare right here on the Big Island.
From my ‘ohana to yours—mahalo for the warm welcome. Let’s take care of each other.
Sincerely,
Iris Erickson
