OUR STORY
Caring for your loved ones is in our blood.
Business partners Justin and Hulali first met in 2020 while working for a local nursing and rehabilitation facility on the Big Island. After years of working together in leadership, the opportunity to form Kokua Healthcare Big Island arose in 2023. Determined to create a better home health system for a community that means so much to the both of them, Justin and Hulali began to create a premier home health company unlike anything else on the Big Island. Kokua Healthcare hopes to continue to build lasting and cherished relationships with the communities and healthcare workers of Hawaii.
MEET THE TEAM
Justin Morrison, Partner
Aloha,
My name is Justin Morrison. I am a disabled veteran, serving multiple combat tours as an explosive detector team during Iraqi freedom. I served 10 years doing my very best to keep the lives of those behind me able to return home safely to their loved ones. While serving a tour in 2007 I was alerted to the health and well-being of my spouse as she was rapidly declining. She had a terminal illness, but you would have never known by the way she carried herself. In 2008 her health continued to decline, and she was ultimately admitted to the hospital, and we waited on a transplant list for 2 lungs. During that year I promised myself I would do everything and anything to keep her lighthearted and comfortable. She very much had her dignity and needed me to provide all showers, help her to and from the bathroom, and provide meals she could tolerate. She needed 24/7 assistance. She had over 52 prescriptions. During this time, she told me that once I was done with my military service, I should pursue healthcare because I had the heart to make a difference no matter how good or bad it was. She passed away shortly after, and when I was discharged from the military in 2012, I pursued a degree in Senior Care and expedited my degree in less than 3 years.
I then started the process of becoming a Nursing Home Administrator. I have 2 children, a wonderful fiancé, and her son. I started with a certified nursing assistant certification and was able to care for people properly. I made it my mission to make a difference in a positive way to 3-4 residents or staff a day. I still think leading from the front for my employees allows them to see that you must love people; to be able to care for people on their worst days but still bring a smile to their face. I have now been an administrator for 7 years and continue to do so with my last building being in Hilo, HI. I fell in love with the people on the Big Island and the love and respect shown to each other. It very much pressed on my heart and believe God put me there for a reason. Now, I am trying to provide exceptional care to the entire island of Hawaii. To give back to the people who accepted me as their own Ohana as they became mine. I am so excited to make a difference to all communities in need of home care services. Thank you for trusting us with the most important responsibility in life, care of our loved ones.
We look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Justin Morrison, LNHA

Aloha everyone,
My name is Hulali Trask-Kainoa, and I was born and raised in Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. From a young age, my family and community have instilled in me the value of ʻohana and the importance of caring for our own. While in high school, my mom, Renee Trask, fell ill with ALS. Our entire family came together to make sure that she could remain at home, surrounded by those who loved her during her final years. We were blessed to have expanded our ʻohana during this time with our Hospice ʻohana, who played an instrumental role in mom’s care. Since then, it has been my goal to figure out my place in this community and how I can help take care of our people. I have been in the healthcare field since 2014 and have been a nurse for over five years, with my primary experience being in geriatric care and infection prevention and management. My dream is to be able to give back to my community and help establish trustworthy and honorable healthcare. Kōkua Healthcare Big Island strives to do just that- to provide our Kūpuna and local communities with the care they deserve while giving our employees a safe and desirable workplace. We are always open to discussing the needs of your ʻohana and will do what we can to support everyone in the process.
Mahalo nui,
Hulali Trask-Kainoa, CCO, RN-MSN, MBA

People Matter At Kokua Healthcare
People want to live their lives where they feel most comfortable – in their own home. We offer a range of services, from basic companionship to round-the-clock care, that allows seniors and other individuals to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
I am honored to recommend Kōkua Healthcare Big Island, who provided exceptional care to my father before his passing. His caregiver went above and beyond, consistently demonstrating compassion, patience, and professionalism. Her attentive and gentle approach brought immense comfort to both my father and stepmother during a difficult time, and her dedication was truly unparalleled. She was not only skilled in her nursing duties but also deeply empathetic, creating a supportive environment that brought peace to our family. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had Kokua Healthcare Big Island for my father, and I highly recommend them for any role requiring excellence in healthcare and genuine human connection.
My Dad is a 91 year old military veteran who is very organized and particular about how he likes everything done. We have a wonderful experience with Kokua Healthcare. Dad was initially hesitant to have professional caregivers in his home. . The caregivers they provided have been extremely professional and personable. They were dependable, and always on time. My Dad truly enjoys their company, and the caregiver services they provide. I feel they go above the “call of duty” to truly understand our needs, and customize their service. Their communication is also timely and excellent.
We have been very pleased with our caregiver from Kokua Healthcare Big Island. The progress in my wife’s recovery from her neck surgery has been amazing. She is regaining strength and mobility and doesn’t need to worry about her previous home duties. She is happier and has social interaction while I am at work. I recommend Kokua Healthcare Big Island.
